Tintoretto Old Master Oil Painting Large Antique Saint George Dragon Venice
Saint George and the Dragonafter TINTORETTO (Jacopo Robusti 1518-1594) This is a large and stunning 19th century depiction of St George & the Dragon, oil on canvas. Excellent quality version of Tintoretto's famous painting held in the London National Gallery. Would have been painted by a skilled copyist in the museum with great accuracy. The garments of the princess in the foreground are particularly stunning.
Measurements: 109 cm x 68.5 cm, or 43" x 27" approx.
The painting has some smoke damage and dirt to the surface and a small splatter of white paint, the paint surface is stable with no repairs that I can see. Would enhance with a light clean and framing.

Tintoretto: Jacopo Robusti (l1518 –1594), best known as Tintoretto, Venetian: was an Italian Renaissance painter of the Venetian school. His contemporaries both admired and criticized the speed with which he painted, and the unprecedented boldness of his brushwork. For his phenomenal energy in painting he was termed il Furioso (Italian for 'the Furious'). His work is characterised by his muscular figures, dramatic gestures and bold use of perspective, in the Mannerist style.
